Launch of Peel Region Paramedic Services Partnership with THP for Mental Health Services

First responders are considered at greater risk for Acute Stress Discorder (ASD) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) than the general public due to the nature of their work, including often being the first on scene to traumatic events. Research shows paramedics are the most at risk, compared to other emergency personnel. Access to fast, quality care is the first step in addressing and overcoming such conditions.

With this new partnership, paramedics will have expedited access to psychological assessment and treatment services provided by a skilled team of mental health professionals with extensive experience working with first responders.

THP’s Insight Health Solutions Team (IHS), is also helping to remove barriers when it comes to access to care by helping paramedics to navigate the system in a more seamless and efficient manner for those seeking treatment. Services and sessions are flexible based on the paramedic’s needs and can be done in person, or virtually, based on preference.

“As the largest provider of mental health services in West Toronto and Peel Region, we know the impact one’s mental health can have on their quality of life,” said Dante Morra, Chief of Staff and President, Insight Health Solutions. “This innovative partnership is designed specifically for paramedics, so that we can look after those who look after us.”

Mental Health Services at THP include both inpatient and community-based services, so care is continued beyond our hospital walls. The multidisciplinary team offers a broad range of assessment, treatment, education and consultation services to individuals and families from infancy to adulthood.
