What is the THP Solutions Clinic:

THP Solutions brings together research, innovation, and operations to create, implement, test and scale innovative solutions to improve the health system.

The THP Solutions Clinic is a Virtual Medical Clinic that enables virtual visits with key biometric tools that are approved by Health Canada to enhance the medical visit with the high-quality care and medical expertise only found in a hospital.

The Vision of the THP Solutions Clinic is to provide an innovative space for patients to access high quality care – anytime, anywhere.

Why is the Solutions Clinic Needed

Many Ontarians struggle to access the care they need and face challenges navigating the healthcare system. In Ontario, 50% of patients wait 40 or more days to see a specialist after a referral from primary care. Additionally, 60% of patients who visitthe emergency department could be managed differently with less intensive care if it were available.

THP Solutions is looking for ways to tackle the challenges in navigating the system and getting the care in the right place at the right time. We are integrating research, innovation, and clinical expertise to develop, implement, test, and expand innovative solutions to reshape the way we access health care.

What makes the Solutions Clinic different?

Located in Canada’s largest and most diverse communities, we understand the importance of an inclusive and integrated approach to health system planning, service delivery and evaluation to provide patients with the right care with the right provider at the right time. This virtual medical clinic offers:

  • Timely Care: Appointments within 3 days with medical personnel.
  • Technology Enabled: Leveraging technology to enhance the virtual experience. The CarePOD is designed with the customer in mind and is equipped with the right technology to support a seamless experience.
  • Care in the right setting: Timely access to health care services at the times you need it avoids unnecessary hospital visits and allows you to receive care closer to home or at work.
  • Co-Ordinated Care: The medical team can support referrals for specialist consultations and diagnostic imaging with timely communication with your primary care provider.

Occupational Therapy Services

  1. Nurse Practitioner: A Nurse Practitioner can assess your concerns and make recommendations directly to your pharmacy for medication prescriptions, refer you to a specialist, or recommend further testing.
  2. General Internal Medicine (GIM): Access the General Internal Medicine Specialist with a referral from the Nurse Practitioner or your Family Doctor within 3 days to support specialized care.
  3. CarePOD Access: This virtual medical clinic is equipped with key biometric tools to collect essential information to guide assessment and care. This includes medical grade Health Canada approved devices including to measure your blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, temperature, weight and video-enabled observation. Additional technological features are being explored for future enhancements.
  4. Mental Health Services: Access a psychotherapist, social worker, or mental health clinician to discuss your concerns in a private and confidential space.

How does the Care POD work?

3 simple steps:

  1. Book an Appointment: Book online at Insight@thp.ca or call 416-521-4095 for an appointment. You family doctor can fax a referral to the General Internal Medicine Specialist at 416-521-4140.
  2. You will receive a PIN code to use for the pod.
  3. Attend for your appointment at your scheduled time and start your visit.
