Gita K. Afshar President Ms. Afshar was named President of Insight Health Solutions, Inc. in August 2007. She is responsible for strategic planning and management of healthcare engagements and consultants as well as client relations. Ms. Afshar has more than twenty years of diverse management, operations, development and consulting experience in the healthcare industry. She joined Insight Health Solutions in 2001 as Vice President of Consulting Services and was responsible for managing large-scale system implementation projects for healthcare clients.
Ms. Afshar’s experience spans a variety of healthcare organizations from health plans and hospitals to physician offices, giving her an overall understanding of the issues faced by the healthcare industry. Prior to Insight Health Solutions, Ms. Afshar was a senior consultant for Merrill Clark Incorporated and managed numerous projects and software efforts for hospitals and large physician offices. Her previous positions included Director of Management Information Systems at BlueCHiP, a subsidiary of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rhode Island, where she worked for thirteen years.
Ms. Afshar holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Scranton, Pennsylvania and has completed graduate courses in Computer Science and Computer Engineering at the University of Rhode Island.
John S. Coldiron, M.D., M.P.H. Vice President & Chief Medical Management Officer Dr. Coldiron has been Vice President and Chief Medical Management Officer at Insight Health Solutions, Inc. since retirement from his position as the Vice President of Medical Affairs at Newport Hospital, Newport, Rhode Island in January 2003. He is co-developer of the current products and has established a reputation as a leader and innovator in the field of quality and performance improvement.
While at Newport Hospital, Dr. Coldiron was primarily responsible for serving as liaison with the hospital’s medical staff, organizing a total quality management program, implementing a medical staff development plan, and contributing to the hospital’s overall strategic planning process. Prior to Newport Hospital, he was Senior Vice President for Clinical Affairs, Massachusetts Hospital Association, Burlington, Massachusetts; a Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs; and Director and Vice President of Ambulatory and Community Services at Carney Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts.
Dr. Coldiron received his M.D. from the University of Chicago, completed a rotating internship at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, Pennsylvania, and a pediatric residency at Babies Hospital in New York City. He received his Master’s degree in Public Health from Columbia University School of Public Health and Administrative Medicine, New York, in 1968. He is certified in Pediatrics and Medical Management and is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American College of Physician Executives.
Dr. Coldiron is currently a member of the Governing Committee of the Massachusetts Medical Malpractice Reinsurance Plan.
Mark W. Smiley Vice President of Product Development & CTO Mr. Smiley has been Vice President of Product Development and Chief Technology Officer at Insight Health Solutions, Inc. since 2005. He began working on the Insight Health Solutions products in 1998 as an employee of Newport Hospital, Newport, Rhode Island. He joined the healthcare division of Merrill Clark Inc. in 2000 as a Senior Software Engineer where he continued work on the products until Insight Health Solutions, Inc. was created in 2001. He was then appointed the Director of Technology of the newly formed company.
Mr. Smiley has developed or overseen the development of all of Insight Health Solutions products from their infancy to their present “state of the art” platform and design concepts. He has led the efforts in redesigning the products, moving them from "Thick Client" applications to Microsoft COM+ web based applications, and then web based Microsoft.NET applications. Mr. Smiley has also been responsible for collecting business requirements for each of these products from healthcare quality improvement personnel and translating them into software products.
During this period, Mr. Smiley has served as a consultant to many hospitals on the installation, implementation, and use of Insight Health Solutions products as well as industries outside of healthcare. He has been part of the marketing and sales efforts of the company as well.
Prior to joining the Insight Health Solutions team, he served in the retail IT, manufacturing IT, risk management IT, and financial IT industries. Prior to this, Mr. Smiley owned and operated a retail printing business, managed multiple retail operations and was a member of the U.S. Army.
